Insurer must pay part of climbing wall judgment, says Missouri Supreme Court [Missouri Lawyers Media]

An insurance company is on the hook for more than half of a $4.6 million judgment over the death of a young woman in a climbing wall accident, the Missouri Supreme Court said. Great American Insurance had provided excess coverage to the owner of a minor league baseball team in Columbia.

April 24–A Preston County man says he was fired from his job as a billboard installer because his employer wouldn’t provide him with a safety harness that was large enough to fit him. Jason Alexander is suing Allegheny Poster and Kanawha Valley Advertising, the parent company of Allegheny Poster.


Jury sides with victim in deadly trench collapse

BELLEVILLE, Ill. Thirty-seven-year-old Ron Yankey of Ellis Grove and a 48-year-old co-worker died in March 2008 when soft dirt collapsed into the Millstadt trench they were working in during construction of a sewage treatment plant. Both families sued the project’s general contractor, Followell Construction of Marion.

Colorado State: Above-Average 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season Expected

The 2011 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to produce above-average activity, a closely-watched forecast issued by Colorado State University said Wednesday. The forecasters said the June 1-Nov. 30 season will likely have 16 named storms, nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes, defined as a Category 3 storm or higher, which feature sustained winds of 111 miles an hour or greater
